A Look Back at the Greatest Technological Innovations of 2023

Written by Tekton | Feb 9, 2024 8:42:49 PM

From the seemingly spontaneous AI boom to the myriad of green tech start-ups created in 2023, one thing is certain: the rush of tech innovations will continue this year. We can thank the year 2023 for it. To say the least, it's been an exciting year. And it has set a high standard for technological leaps and developments to follow. So, before we turn our attention to the new year, here's a quick recap of the most influential technologies of 2023.

Quantum Computing Leaps

This year marked a new age of quantum computing.

The quantum computing community was still laying and polishing the groundwork before 2023. More resources were invested in experimenting with quantum hardware and training people to use quantum computers.

However, with the announcement of IBM's groundbreaking 'Heron' Processor, their most powerful processor to date, at this year's Quantum Summit, quantum computing will revolutionize industries by solving complex operations at previously believed impossible speeds. IBM also unveiled a new computing architecture system that will propel and scale quantum computers into the future, as well as advance science into areas other than quantum computing. Now that the door to scientific and technological exploration has been opened, we can't help but wonder, what else is there to discover?

The Green Tech Revolution

2023 has proved that climate change will not dwindle with time.

Businesses have begun to widely accept this reality by introducing supporting technology that is long-lasting and reduces carbon footprints in the Earth's atmosphere. According to BloombergNEF's 2H 2023 Renewable Energy Investment Tracker report, not only have thousands of companies worldwide begun to adapt their operations to ESG standards, but global investment in renewable energy has reached a whopping $358 billion. This represents a 22% increase from the beginning of the year and the most money ever invested in any six-month period.

From energy-efficient hardware designs to eco-friendly data centers, green tech has only just begun its revolution against outdated and polluting technology. So, if you’re a business owner, make sure to hop on this green tech wagon sooner rather than later.

Generative AI Ascends

While artificial intelligence has been around for a while, 2023 marked the year it became smarter and faster.

We can all recall the fuss caused by Chat GPTs' public exposure. It was the first time in history that chatbots went viral. While this technology isn't particularly novel, 2023 was the year it took center stage and became the main attraction for anyone with internet access. Nonetheless, advances in AI technology, such as text-to-video and video-to-video tools, have seen the light of day. Runway, a Brooklyn-based AI video startup, raised over $100 million this year and promises to deliver software that will take human creativity to new heights. With AI expected to continue on its upward trajectory, we can only speculate on what else is in store for us.

Looking back on 2023, it is clear that this year has a track record of innovation, creativity, and environmental consciousness. These technological advancements have set the stage for a future in which technology continues to shape and redefine our world. As we step into the new year, we can expect green technology to have an even greater impact on businesses and society; advances in quantum computing are sure to unearth mysteries that will propel modern science down a wormhole of discovery and innovation; and the AI storm has only just begun to show people and businesses what it is truly capable of.

Keep an eye out for the greatest technological innovations in 2024. We are certain there will be plenty!
